The meeting hi ghs (mawáquit makániya).
This refers to places outside Mecca, where Muslims gather
before entering the Haram. Arriving at these meeting places, they prepare
physically and spiritually to fulfill their sacred duty. These sites are
determined by religious jurisprudence and each of them is known by the name of
miqát. The same, Prophet has fixed them south, east and north of Mecca. They
are the following:
a) Dhul`l Hulayfa:
Located north of Mecca, at a distance of 450 kilometers, it is reserved for the
inhabitants of Medina and those who are located north of this city.
b) Al Yuhra:
village located northwest of Mecca that served as a stop for the people who
came from the Levant. It has been in ruins for some time and in its place there
is the village of Rabigh, which is the '' miqat '' for people from the United
Arab Republic, Turkey, Balkan countries, Syria, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and
all coming from the northwest.
c) Yalamlam: it is a
mountain south of Mecca, high reserved by the Prophet, for people from Yemen and
countries that are further south.
d) Qarn el Manázil:
mountain east of Mecca, considered high, for those from the Negd and other
eastern lands.
Every person who reaches the high that is destined to him,
must enter the sacred state called Ihram.
Those who live between these high places and Mecca. they
must assume their Ihram at the same time and place where they begin their
sacred journey. As for those of Mecca itself, they begin the Ihrám in their
homes. If the Ihrám is destined for the restricted pilgrimage, the people of
Mecca should go beyond the Haram to carry out the Ihrám. From this place they
begin their pilgrimage.
